Finally, it is suggested to purchase two 128 megabyte memory cards or one 256 megabyte memory card if you have a 3 to 5 mega-pixels digital camera.
To have higher resolution photographs it is better to go for 1 gigabyte or 512 megabyte digital camera memory card. The number and quality of the photographs usually depends on the size and type of the memory card you have chosen. Digital camera normally stores images on the stamp size thin memory card. These images are then transferred to the compute through the USB cable or by inserting the memory card in the card reader attached to the computer. Generally, using memory card reader can help the user to download images quickly and with ease. How big the memory card you require depends on the level of mega-pixels your digital camera has. It also depends on whether your digital camera is JEPG or RAW.
One of the regular file format used in digital cameras is JEPG which compresses unnecessary information from the files before images are being saved. However, the size of the files can still be bigger. RAW file format is regularly used with size of 10 to 20 megabytes where-as higher quality JEPG pictures generally run with 1 to 4 megabytes. Surya Ongko says that for storing reasonable high-quality images you would require a higher capacity of digital camera memory card. As there are different types of digital camera memory cards available in the market, most of the digital cameras are specifically designed for using just one type of memory card.
