Canon, touted as one of the Fortune’s Most Admired Companies added a feather to its cap by launching the Canon SD700 IS. The latest offering from the largest filmmakers of the world, the Canon SD 700 has redefined ‘sleek’. This digital camera model has been elegantly designed with a one of its kind ‘Curvature and Stream’ look. In addition to it, the camera boasts of hordes of revolutionary features. The Canon SD700 has a variety of shooting options that please even the most demanding of all photographers. The camera is designed keeping in mind both the professional genre of photographers as well as the hobbyists.
The SD700 has a 4x optical zoom lens with an Ultra-High Refractive Index Aspherical (UA) lens that allows it to attain a focal length range of 35-140mm. The Canon SD 700 has a real-image optical viewfinder fitted into its compact body. The absence of an LCD helps in boosting the camera’s 240 shot battery capacity. The Canon SD 700 is available at a price of $499.99.
The SD700 is distinctly characterized by the fact that it has a slim and sleek body. It is often considered that lighter camera bodies are more vulnerable to the ‘camera shake’ phenomenon especially from handheld shots in conditions of poor illumination. The Canon SD 700 IS makes use of similar optical Image Stabilizer (IS) technology that has been used in the Canon’s professional EF lenses. This is of great help in reducing the image blur caused by camera shake thus resulting in sharper and clearer images.
The 4x optical zoom lens of the SD5700 integrates an Ultra-High Refractive Index Aspherical (UA) lens to attain a maximum focal length range of 35-140mm. The Canon SD 700 IS has an ISO 800 to make possible flash-free shooting in enclosed places. This makes the camera ideal for use especially in dully lit environments. What sets the camera apart from the rest available in the market is its inimitable look and design. The arresting tri-colored design of the SD700, its ‘ice metal’ silver and ‘moonlight’ silver in satin and glossy finishes, along with the ebony black gloss adjoining the LCD screen, give it a distinct appearance.
The Canon SD 700 model is available with a number of accessories. Some of them include an optional waterproof case that permits the user to shoot underwater while protecting the inner circuitry of the camera. The Canon SD700 IS camera is well-matched with MMC/SD cards and is provided with a 16MB Canon memory card. Some of the other accessories that accompany a Canon SD700 are the HF-DC1 high power flash, the DCC-70 soft leather case, the Power Shot metal and leather neck straps and the ACK-DC30 compact AC power adapter.
The SD700 has a purpose-built DIGIC II image processor that provides all basic camera functions. The SD700 is equipped with a state-of-the-art microchip that allows for high-speed processing of data results in exceptional receptiveness, quick auto focus and a continuous shooting ability. The DIGIC II functions resourcefully thus allowing the battery to live longer.
The SD700 has been designed with iSAPS or Intelligent Scene Analysis based on Photographic Space that involuntarily optimizes the main camera settings ahead of taking a shot. Each shot is analyzed and tallied with the Photographic Space that is an enormous in-camera collection of data. This in-camera library facilitates the camera to create most favorable adjustments to auto exposure, auto focus and auto white balance before any image in captured.
The optical Image Stabilizer technology in the SD700 is in fact a unique vibration sensors technology that detects and rectifies even the slightest of all camera shakes. Thus, images come sharp, focused and clear. The UA lens used in the Canon SD700 was the world’s first ultra-high refractive index glass molded aspherical lens. This lens is specially made from a type of glass that has a higher refractive index than other aspherical glasses. This allows for superior quality of images without an increase in the bulkiness of the camera. The author, Surya Ongko, feels that the SD700 is a great purchase for both the hobby photographer as well as the professional photographer. For more details, read digital camera video.
